The BristolSoccerClub is pleased to invite you to our 22nd Annual GolfTournamentscheduled on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Hawk’s Landing in Southington, CT. Bristol Soccer Club is pleased to announce that registration for the upcoming travel tryouts is now open. Please register your child for the appropriate age group based on the chart at the bottom of this announcement.
When are Travel Soccer Try-Outs?
Travel soccer tryouts usually take place in the spring. Tryout dates & times for each age group will be posted on our website. There are 2 nights of tryouts for each age group and players are strongly encouraged to attend both. Attending both tryout sessions will maximize the amount of time your child can be seen and evaluated by our coaching/training staff. If you are unable to attend one of the scheduled tryouts we will have a makeup session on May 25th for both Boys and Girls Please see schedule for 2018/19 travel season below: Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled tryout time to check in.
5:30pm – 6:30pm
6:30pm – 7:30pm
U12 – U15
U12 – U15
U12 – U15
U12 – U15
**Check in runs 30 minutes prior to your scheduled tryout time (5-5:30 for U8-11, 6-6:30 for U12+)**
Who should try out?
Travel soccer is for committed players who are looking for more of a challenge in order to continue to grow as a soccer player.
Should my child attend all tryouts?
Tryouts are required. Please note that tryouts consist of two sessions & players should make every effort to attend both sessions.
What do I bring for the try out?
No child will be able to step on the field without the following:
Online pre-registration before May 21, 2018
Check in at concession registration booth
Birth Certificate (if applicable - for players new to travel only)
Receive numbered jersey for evaluation
Bring soccer ball (best to write name on the ball) and water bottle
What is the procedure for tryouts?
Parents must register the child for the program. All registration information is listed under the tab Online Registration located on the Bristol Soccer Club website (www.bristolsoccer.org). Players will be on the field doing drills, small sided games etc. so that the coaching staff/trainers can evaluate the players with respect to their ability to compete at the travel level. During this time, no parents are allowed on the fields.
When will my child be notified about what team he or she is going to be on?
Players will be notified by no later than the end of June.
My child is already on a travel team. Is it necessary for him or her to tryout again?
Yes; all players tryout for travel soccer every year. If a current travel soccer player does not appear at tryouts he or she will not be placed on a team. Exceptions will only be made in extenuating circumstances (i.e., injuries, family emergencies, etc.).
Will my child be on a team with the same players who are on his or her travel soccer team this year?
Not necessarily. Player skills and bodies change rapidly in youth soccer. BSC teams are based on the information gathered from tryout results, coach evaluation and trainer evaluation, if available.
Are travel fees refundable?
Travel fees are non-refundable. Upon commitment to a team, you are financially responsible for all Club fees. Upon the posting of the travel rosters we will ask that the entire fee for the 2018 fall season be paid in full no later than 14 days after the posting of the rosters to secure your spot on the travel team. After the 14th day those players placed on a waitlist will now have the opportunity to secure a roster position. It has become a challenge at the Bristol Soccer Club to field competitive teams when we lose players days before the season starts or to other sports come spring. As a courtesy, we ask for the payment in full to show commitment for fall/spring seasons.
I understand that travel soccer is a multi season sport, but what if my child doesn’t want to play travel soccer in the other seasons?
BSC's travel soccer program is comprised of fall & spring seasons, as this gives children the best opportunity to develop as players. If you know your child will not be playing travel soccer during a season, you should consider placing your child in our In-house program. This will enable us to create more stable travel teams over the travel season and minimize roster disruptions created by players who withdraw or want to be added. Last minute withdrawals will not be viewed favorably in future years, nor will refunds of travel fees be granted once you have accepted a position on the team.
Can my child play Travel soccer at the same time as other sports?
YES. Many Travel soccer players, particularly at the younger ages, play many sports during the same season, including baseball, football or basketball. Any players who anticipate scheduling conflicts should make their coach aware of the conflict before the season begins or as soon as possible so that the coach can plan practice or game schedules accordingly.
Does BSC Travel have a playing time policy?
Yes. Our guidelines say that every player must play at least 25%-50% of each game (except Cup games) for U9 and U10. The only exception is when players have multiple absences from practices (illness is considered excused and should not impact playtime). While there is a policy in place, coaches are allowed to use their discretion. The Bristol Soccer Club Travel Coordinator/Committee members hold a pre-season coaches meeting to address policies & procedures regarding the travel program. Any issues regarding playing time should be discussed with the team coach then the BSC Travel Coordinator/Committee in that order.
Where do Travel teams play?
BSC Travel teams play league games throughout Hartford County in the fall and spring. The distance traveled will depend upon the teams they play in their League and could include Avon, Simsbury, Granby, Wethersfield, South Windsor or Newington. Friendly games are also schedule with surrounding town travel teams. CT Cup games can require you to travel outside of the Hartford area (U11 and above teams only).
What is the time commitment for the players?
Travel teams practice two evenings a week. In addition to the practice schedule, each team will play at least one regular scheduled league game, generally on a Sunday; many teams also schedule friendly games on Saturdays. Teams may also elect to attend seasonal tournaments.
What is the Connecticut Cup?
The Connecticut Cup (“CT Cup”) is a statewide, single-elimination tournament played on Saturday afternoons over the course of a season for U11 and older. Cup teams are expected to participate in CT Cup play during the Fall season and Spring Season.
As part of the U.S. Soccer Player’s Development Initiatives, cjsa will follow the new birth year and season matrix listed below. There will still be some cases where play ups will apply.
