2015-2016 TRYOUT NEWS AND DATES COMING SOON

**BREAKING NEWS** Spring Updates you NEED to know!!!

Bristol Soccer Club - Spring 2015 Newsletter

Well, the snow has finally stopped falling (we hope!), so now we can officially turn our attention to the upcoming spring soccer season. And with that, comes the news you need to know from the clubhouse.

New Partnership with Plainville Soccer Club

As some of you may have read on our Facebook page, we have entered into a partnership with our neighbors, the Plainville Soccer Club, to merge our U9+ recreational soccer divisions. What does this mean for you? Well, mostly it means more kids playing soccer, which is never a bad thing. It may also mean that some games will be played at Norton Park, which is right around the corner, less than ten minutes from our club. This is a huge win for both clubs and we look forward to a great first season together.

Premier Soccer Partnership

Again the rumor mill has been working overtime, and again, this time it proves to be right! It has recently been announced that the Bristol Soccer Club has entered into a partnership agreement with the CT RUSH premier club to form the Bristol Rush premier soccer program. Please see the attached press release with the details.  As many of you are aware, we have a very successful and competitive travel program (see the earlier release about the U11 girls CT Cup champions last spring!), so this partnership represents the next step in the development of a competitive soccer program. Keep your eyes and ears open for more information as we set dates for tryouts, etc.

Press Release

Golf Tournament

Each year for the last 18 years we have held a golf tournament to support and fund the Courtney Hei-Ra Smith Memorial Scholarship fund. This year as we plan the 19th annual tournament, we have moved to a new course (Hawk's Landing in Southington) and reduced pricing. Save the date now, as the tournament will be held July 1st and registration will opening soon!

Summer Camps

For real?! The snow isn't even melted, and the spring season hasn't even started yet, but yes, we are planning out the summer camp schedule already! You will start to see announcements shortly regarding upcoming summer camp programs and reservation procedures.

Candy Fundraiser

I know most of you already picked up your candy, and hopefully sold it all! If you were unable to attend one of the pickups, please feel free to stop down during our field cleanup day. Currently planned for April 4th, weather and snowmelting permitted, it's a great opportunity to come down and help prepare the fields for the spring and grab a couple boxes of candy to sell. You might even be able to sell a few bars to the other volunteers who have worked up an appetite!

Volunteers!

Did you know that the Bristol Soccer Club is an all volunteer run organization? It's true! And we are always looking for help, be it coaching (no previous soccer experience required!), cleanup (Spring cleanup is scheduled for April 4th, but may get pushed out if there is still white stuff clinging to the ground), soliciting sponsorships or organizing events, like the golf tournament. If you are interested, reach out to one of the board members listed on the site, or send us an email or a Facebook message.

That's it for now, but keep watching your email and our website for more announcements and like us on Facebook for information and announcements

TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year!

Bristol Soccer Club Volunteer Loreen Gawel Named TOPSoccer Volunteer of the Year by Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA)

BRISTOL, Conn., February 17, 2015 – The Bristol Soccer Club, an all volunteer, non-profit

organization committed to offering a high level soccer experience for children and young adults

from ages 4 to 18 announced that during the January 30th CJSA Annual President’s State-wide

Award Dinner held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cromwell, CT, club volunteer, Loreen Gawel

was name TOPSoccer Volunteer of the Year.

The Bristol Soccer Club began offering the TOPSocccer Program to the greater Bristol

community this past fall.  TOPSoccer is a soccer program developed through US Youth Soccer

for young athletes with intellectual, developmental or physical special needs. This program

provides individuals with the opportunity to learn and play soccer in a safe, nurturing, and self-

empowering environment. The goal of the program is to enable these young athletes to grow and

develop physically, socially, and emotionally with the assistance of coaches and youth mentoring

buddies. TOPSoccer is designed to improve overall fitness, self-esteem, social skills while

fostering the love of the game. Players are matched by abilities and age 4 -19.  The Bristol

Soccer Club provides the TOPSocccer program for free and all players received a team jersey

and soccer ball.

“For many years at the Bristol Soccer Club we had conversations regarding the startup of a

TOPSoccer program to serve our community”, said Mike Krok, Bristol Soccer Club President.

“However, it was not until Loreen stepped forward as a volunteer organizer that the program

here in Bristol was started.  She not only started the program and got it up and running here in

Bristol from scratch. She was instrumental in shaping a “win-win” experience for the coaches,

volunteers, parents and most importantly the children who participated. Her patience,

determination and can do attitude were something to truly admire. Her can do attitude was

contagious and the overall results were very clear by the reaction of all those who participated –

Loreen’s efforts had indeed created a positive, nurturing and open environment. The game may

have been soccer but the life lessons learned by all were what made the program such a

success for all of us. On behalf of the entire Bristol Soccer Club we could not be prouder of

Loreen for receiving this well-deserved honor.”

Commenting on this honor, Loreen said, “I am humbled to have been recognized but the real

story here is the kids who benefited from the TOPSocccer Program. As the mom of a

TOPSocccer Athlete it is just great to know there is a place for these children to participate in a

program that focuses on all the positives of organized sports combined with the nurturing of the

volunteers and coaches. I look forward to working with the club leaders and volunteers as we all

work together on the program’s continued success and future growth.”
